साथी, घर-घर आज दिवाली!

फैल गयी दीपों की माला
मंदिर-मंदिर में उजियाला,
किंतु हमारे घर का, देखो, दर काला, दीवारें काली!
साथी, घर-घर आज दिवाली!

हास उमंग हृदय में भर-भर
घूम रहा गृह-गृह पथ-पथ पर,
किंतु हमारे घर के अंदर डरा हुआ सूनापन खाली!
साथी, घर-घर आज दिवाली!

आँख हमारी नभ-मंडल पर,
वही हमारा नीलम का घर,
दीप मालिका मना रही है रात हमारी तारोंवाली!

भई कैसा है उजियारा जब कि अमावस काली आई
बोले आकाश से पटाखे धरती पे दीवाली आई

नासमझी में चाशनी कढ़ाई से लार क्यों टपकाये
सजधज के बहुत, मिठाई से भरी वो थाली आई

दीये की ज्योति में भाव बदले रंग बदले ज़माने के
जीवन था बेरंग कितना, अब गालों पर लाली आई

क्यों सब थे नाराज, बैठे गाल फुलाये जब
दीपों से दीप जले तो घर में खुशहाली आई

बेसुध थी रात कुछ भान ओढ़ने का किसको?
अब नथनी नाक में और कानों में बाली आई

फैके हम पर निगाह फुरसत न थी घरवाली को
“ दीवाली मुबारक हो ! ” कहती हुई साली आई
